You've done a basic search, refined some key words, you're ready to do some targeted advanced research! This demo will walk you through how to do multiple keyword searches, what happens when you hit dead ends, and how to start saving the sources you find for later synthesis!
Steps:
Define your research question and preliminary key words
Click "Advanced Search" (right above search box or in the drop down Search at the top)
Type in keywords, and use the drop down to choose between all fields, author, title, abstract or caption
Add search boxes to narrow search with multiple keywords
Narrow results using filter check-boxes by clicking the boxes of kinds of resources you wish to see
Use the drop down Language option to limit language of items retrieved
Use the drop down menus to specify how you want JSTOR to search for your keyword such as by title, author, or abstract of the article.
Use Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to combine keyword searches
Use quotations around keywords you want searched for specifically in that order together
Click the red "Submit Advanced Search"
Start collecting sources to do your analysis and synthesis to draw your own conclusions!
Remember to always cite your sources!
Get images downloaded to your computer and cite it correctly!
Save your work directly to JSTOR by registering and logging in and utlizing their "Workspace" option.
