WHY: Sometimes when you put your key words into a search you get back a number of results that is way too big, or confusing, or not showing what you're looking for. Other times it might not bring up anything at all. You must pick your key words and tell the search engine how they are related and what you actually are looking for. The best way to do this is using boolean phrase operators use the chart below:
Steps:
Type in your key words and look at the results
If you have way too many results using AND will narrow your search
type in the key word and other related key words with AND inbetween: war AND women AND aviation
If your results are too small, or nothing came up, using OR will broaden your search
Type in the key word you're search for and then other synonyms to broaden the search: orphans OR refugees OR youth OR children
If your results are confusing, using NOT could specify your search
Type in the key word you are search for and type NOT and then the key word it is not for example if you wanted to learn about the people who live in India: India NOT "Native American"
