12: Never Pay $
Google Scholar. Paywalls. Interlibrary Loan.
Google Scholar. Paywalls. Interlibrary Loan.
WHY: Most of us use Google from time to time, and for getting broad ideas on research topics and browsing key words that's fine. But Google has one main objective: to sell you articles. So if you want to use Google Scholar, link it to your SJSU library account so you can always find what Google brings up for free and never pay for another article again!
Similarly, if you are reading an article such as The New York Times and some version of "subscribe to read the rest" comes up, please don't pay! The library subscribes to many resources for you, and if you go through the library we can get these resources for you without you having to pay for it!
Lastly, if the school doesn't have the resource for you usually they can get it through something called "interlibrary loan" or ILL.
Steps to connect Google to School Library:
From the library home page click databases
Go to the G's
Click on Google Scholar
Type in your search
Notice on the right hand side it says "Find It @ SJSU"
Click the "Find It @ SJSU" to find that resource through the library and never pay for an articel again!
